 What's the Arena Like?

Just down the road from the Cranbrook RecPlex sits the Memorial Arena, a 1951 barrel-roofed building that looked from outside to be extremely my jam. Unfortunately, I was in Cranbrook slightly too early - there were municipal employees in the rink installing the ice for the season, but it was locked up tight and I couldn't get inside. I can't imagine ever being accidentally in Cranbrook again, but the rink looked very cool from outside.

From internet photos, Cranbrook Memorial Arena looks tiny and inadequate even by the standards of temporary arenas. The rink's capacity is under 2,000, all on wooden bench seats, and attending an Ice game in the two years they played there must have been intense.

 What's It Used for Today?
Given its small capacity and ice surface, the Ice would never have relocated to Cranbrook if Memorial Arena was intended to be their permanent home. Shovels were already in the ground on the Cranbrook RecPlex by the time the team arrived, and they moved into their new arena for the 2000-01 season.
